It's worth pointing out that Barca were managed at that time by English favourite Terry Venables. Gary Lineker was their striker. That "British" element was enough to win the support of many of those south of the border.
No matter - Dundee United's record in European Competition against Barca - P 4 W 4 D 0 L 0 - can't be patronised.
