Hello friends! I thought I'd break out and demo my very first guitar...a Zim-Gar. I bought it new in 1969 from the old (now out of business) Kings Department store for $35.00. It actually is a pretty cool instrument...plays great and has a cool kind-a "surf" sound like a cross between a Gretsch and a Rickenbacker. This model has a couple "toaster type" pick-ups. Zim-Gar produced some "funcky" models from the 1960-s and 70's. This is the only one I've seen like it... It has a hollow violin body shape similar to a Hofner Beatle bass, and a few other violin shaped guitars, but none are exactly like this. Its has a pretty "sun-burst" finish and an interesting whammy bar. It has standard volume/tone knobs and pick-up toggle switch but it also has an interesting "bright" switch on the pick guard. Anyway, give it a listen as Zak & I test it out on the old Chris Isaak song "Forever Blue". Hope you enjoy it and let me know if you have any great old "cheap-o" guitars you remember. (ps...As you can see, my pet chihuahua Lucy is thrilled as usual..HA!)

  • very nice...............thanks !!!

  • @Bidyyy many thanks my friends! The guitar has some fond old memories for me...

  • I have to say it sounds great!!! I haven't heard of them before, do they still make them? I think my first guitar was an old ,very cheap red sunburst Satellite ( in the days when Japanese guitars were cheap). I don't have a chihuahua but I do have a sister called Lucy and she tries equally hard to control her excitement when I play lol. Great Demonstration my friends!!!

  • @classican HAA Thanks Pete! These cheap-o guitars definately have a sound all their own and it isn't really that bad for certain tunes. Yep, this is my very first one. I've only traded one guitar away and one amp and I wish I still had the amp. It was an old grey Silvertone twin 12 tube amp. There isn't a lot of info on Zim-Gars but I think they pretty much quit making them in the 1970's, or at least under that name. Do you ever miss your old Red Satellite? I have a hard time letting stuff go!

  • Hey Lar,

  • @SOMAN1983V Thank you Witek! It doesn't take much to put Lucy (my Chihuahua) to sleep..HA I think she sleeps pretty much the whole day... :^)

  • @The170460 Merci!

  • Your old guitar has quite fairly good sound.

Pleasant tones put your little friend to sleep:))

    Have nice day Lar.

  • nice sound and good taste in your Chris Isaak cover
