oh dear god, I laughed so much during this speech I almost passed out with laughter, and that goes for everyone sitting next to me in the back row of the hall. Even hours after we where still laughing about it at the bar lol. This sertainly is one part of kitacon that will be remembered. Thanks for posting this.

@sylentknyte A gopher is someone who volunteers to help out with stuff, like watching over the games room or checking peoples' con badges when needed or helping out with keeping the masquerade in check, that sort of thing. Its a fair bit of hard work.
Attendee numbers change year to year, but at Kita 2009 I think the member list was like 600...this year it is 1000. Aya and Ame pull about 1500. Minami is limited to 300. Expos and the like get over 20000 but they're shit.

@sylentknyte Grant M is quite well known on the con scene, mostly for his...unusual voice. He kind of came up out of the blue to do an unrehearsed speech. His voice instantly shocked half the people there..and then he said "I'm sweaty, aching, my ass is sore..." Quite possibly the most perfect thing he could have said. Hilarity ensued.
