Not really amazing but good range of motion. But he's using the kettlebell as a counter balance not really as extra weight for the squat. Hold the kettlebell in the rack position and then try it, so much harder.
My friend showed me this exercise in the gym two years ago to help activate my quads. I tried without the weights at first and still couldn't do it. By the end of the week though i was pretty good and another week later i was doing it with the extra weight. I stopped doing it after i broke my leg, Now that i've seen this video it reminded me the workout. I'll re-incorporate it into my workout now. =)

@H0useMouse muscle tissue around the knee becomes stronger from the squats and pistols thus holding the knee in place and making it stronger
