Created by JESS3: The State of Wikipedia not only explores the rich history and inner-workings of the web-based encyclopedia, but it's also a celebration of its 10th anniversary. With more than 17 million articles in over 270 languages, Wikipedia has undoubtedly become one of the most visited and relied upon sites on the web today.
The fourth video in our the "State of" series, JESS3 is proud to release The State of Wikipedia as our first video of 2011. And, as if it weren't good enough, the video features none other than one of the co-founders himself, Jimmy Wales, as the narrator.

Wikipedia is the most important website ever made. Not in the last 10 years. Ever.

I would really like to ask everyone here who likes and uses Wikipedia to contribute in some way. Get involved. You can start like most people, by making minor edits to articles. Then you can consider joining as a registered member. I also donate to the foundation annually, I always donate up to $40 not more. It's not much but if everyone would donate a small amount that would make sure that not only Wikipedia but also the other projects can go on for at least another 10 years!

I found that Wikipedia has a lot of problems when it comes to science papers it is some times very hard to understand a subject you are not familiar to it seams that the people who write it hold no regard fore the novice & lose them self's in detailed & abstract explanations.
Something should be done about it its very annoying.

And by the way i show them proof but not as reliable as their (remember what i said about the catholic and the scientist...) tahitinews.co --> nouvelle-caledonie-une-commission-chargee-de-trouver-drapeau-commun ore one more lefigaro.fr --> les-deux-drapeaux-de-nouvelle-caledonie both are newspapers but not reliable according to wiki (maybe because they are not english...) so for me wiki is as reliable as a clown .

How can a newspaper who doesn't have any office here (and don't even send anyone ...) can be more reliable than people living there and for my country i don't have to proof anything you could search as much as you want you won't find any passport or id card with the flag they show for my country. So for me wiki doesn't give any reliable source of what they say about my countryand when you tell theme they are wrong you just have insult for answer

Technically a newspaper is more reliable because they are a trusted source of information. You gave them no proof you lived there and even if you did give proof you would need a source to back up your claim. This makes Wikipedia even more reliable not less. You are not supposed to put anything on Wikipedia without a source.

I tried to correct some mistakes about my own country (where i live since 30 years) but they judge me not smart enough and just answer by insulting my whole country (a newspaper publish mistake but is much more reliable than the people who leave there) so for me wikipedia is the less reliable source of information on the web you know like the catholic burning the scientists no so long ago because the only true is their ....

If you find a mistake you should fix it as it is an open platform. They need money because last time I checked running a data centre wasn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

wikipedia is full of mistakes even on their logo...
you can participate only if the "expert" (i call them kids playing god) think you deserved it
and for the one who give them money why do they need money? they don't pay anyone ...
