With all due respect I'm saddened Tortelier didn't like Loussier's jazz arrangements...

You can reply that Bach and Tortelier were aristocrats, who had aristocratic lives : a god, loving families, beautiful nature, and a lot of time and silence. And that your young cellist and his teachers certainely have proletarian lives : no god, destroyed families, polluted nature, a lot of noise and no time... Therefore they are as far from Bach as it is possible.

I was talking the other day to a young cellist about this master-class. He replied, who would play Bach this way today, everything was wrong, the bowing, articulation, expression, yes, even the "phrasing". What can you say to that?

He is the most amazing teacher ever....it would matter if he were teaching auto mechanics or or religion; it would all be done with energy and spirit.

@cheesecheesecheesey glad I saw him live..........
Excuse my French, although I live (now) in France, it's not my mother tongue.
Retour au violoncelle.... ;-)
