Christie were a versatile group, moving into a more progressive sound by the time of their second album, For All Mankind. This track, Martian King, was one of the standouts and was a staple of their live shows in 1971. It featured, powerful drumming, electrifying lead guitar and a frantic bass run, with the song quickly becoming a favourite among fans as well as the music critics. Without a doubt, it highlighted the versatility of singer songwriter Jeff Christie, who also wrote the country pop of the first album and the hard-edged soul of his previous band, The Outer Limits.
