This is the in-game soundtrack for the PC game "MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat" (1995) from Activision and FASA Corporation. It was composed by Gregory Alper and Jeehun Hwang.

You can actually hear all of these songs (26 in total) when you put the "MechWarrior 2" game CD in your stereo and skip track number one which is the data track.

This is the 11th music track on the CD, called "Pyre Light".

One cool thing.. in those days i left my Mechwarrior CD in my Drive. And played Settlers 2.... and it just played the Mechwarrior tracks that was pretty hilarious =)

  • "Enemy powerup... DETECTED"

    "Autopilot... DISABLED"

    "Groupfire... ENGAGED"

PPC's, fire. Switch to LRM. Wait for the tone, fire.

Duck behind that sanddune. Increase speed, closed to MLAS range.

Check your six for his buddy, reaquire target, pop up over the dune.

Withering linkfire from 4 medium pulse lasers, lop off his left leg.

    "Heat Level... CRITICAL" S'ok.

Run around behind him. Might use his one-legged torso for cover. Might just unload on his other leg.

    "Enemy Mech... DESTROYED"

  • @stymieland You, freeborn legger!

    Depends what those toppings are.

If your sauce sucks, your vegetables are not fresh or you just put on meat and no seasoning, it's probably going to be bland.

  • @InnuendoXP I have to disagree about pizza - I tend to think that a pizza with only a couple toppings tends to be a bit bland. ;)

  • omg so much nostalgia

  • @Modighen

I don't know if it's that so much. There's a lot of bland game music out there which would've sounded a lot better with a lot less done to it.

It's like topping a pizza... you can have very high quality ingredients but adding more than a few of them doesn't necessarily make it better. When you lose the flavour of each individual ingredient in the mess then it makes it a lot worse despite more being put into it.

  • @InnuendoXP I believe it has more to do with the composition. There are a few titles out there which have great music, but I find so many titles have bland, uninspired background music which needs a lot of instruments to make up for it.

  • @Modighen

What's even more weird is the fact that the first five seconds of the next song always wind up at the end of the track.

I agree completely. Developers don't have the courage to make games unforgiving these days.

I remember back in the day that when you got to the later levels, even when you had learned the ropes the difficulty kept ramping up and it felt like a STRUGGLE. You felt a sense of dread going in, and the elation of achievement coming out.

Though the odd gem such as The Void come round now and then.

And Halo is actually pretty good.. well, the original one. The sequels lost the magic :/

  • @TrickyDickStudios Sometimes the catalogs get buggered and the tracks get mixed up. I just spent the last half hour putting them back in order.

  • Huh, my CD labels this track as "Armor Veil".
