Therapy in Photography
The therapeutic side to self-portraits and photographs in general are also becoming more discussed and widely used. There are several pages on the subject and people working actively with it on a daily basis either as someone's therapist or as their own therapist with the self-portrait as the means to work through their problems and everyday life. As mentioned it is claimed that a self-portrait, a photograph taken by you of you say more about you then just your facial traits. Which is why the use of it in therapy can be very useful.
"Every photograph someone takes is also a type of self-portrait reflecting him or her; they chose to freeze it permanently." (Bramley, M. C. (2009) The Relationship Between Self-Portrait and Therapeutic Photography, in Relation to the Work of Jo Spence. p. 6)
