Once the 49-50 Fords started hitting the used car lots in the late 50s, teenagers could buy them for less than $200 and turn them into customs, hot rods and lead sleds. This love-affair with these old "Shoebox Fords" continues today. Here's mine; similar to the one I had in high school a long time ago...

  • This is a car not the honda civic's we see today these cars were and still are built like tanks and sure appealed to the ladies all right!!!!

  • @TheCoolCountryguy Thanks for watching my video. Back in the day, the car may have been a Chick-Magnet, but today not so much. Out of the nearly 6900 views, only 8 percent are females. But, they span all age groups, and I appreciate all the women who like my Shoebox Ford video. My granddaughter likes it, too.

  • Thanks for the James Dean story. Everyone knows about his 49 Merc and Porsche, but the 49 Ford is a new one! Ironically, he was killed by a 50 Ford crashing into his Porsche. Thanks for the watching.

  • WOW! i love it!

  • @korvettemaster Thanks for looking...appreciate it!

  • Just had to review your video again. Great looking ride. I remember your first 49 Ford when we were in high school. Memories!!! :-)

  • @inkey2 : Possibly. Not sure where the vehicle is now, since I've heard tell that the Winslow farm has since been sold.

  • @MrRJDB1969 if that can be varified as definately James Dean's Ford it's gotta be worth a good sum. Probably a minimum of 100 Grand

  • While at the WInslow farm in Fairmount, Indiana a number of years ago, the wife of James Dean's cousin, Mark Winslow, opened up a storage / tool shed and showed me James Dean's high school graduation present ; a green 4dr 1949 Ford. Not many, if anyone at the time, knew of the vehicle , other than his family members. In front of this shed, in the cement, were Dean's hand & footprints , left from when he was approx. ten years old. Seems he already knew he was Hollywood bound.

  • Beautiful car, inside and out! :) Jack
