Passaic Police Officer Joseph Rios III this morning was found not guilty of police brutality charges stemming from the May 2009 arrest of a schizophrenic man on a city street corner that was captured on videotape.
Kasim Washington, a Passaic community activist who was in the courtroom, shook his head and said, "unbelievable" when the verdict was delivered. Washington later said the verdict sends the wrong message to the people, "both here in Passaic and across the nation."
He said there would be a protest at the corner of Main and Summer later this afternoon
