  • Well, everything isnt truly human in the idea of Evangelion. Because humans are technicaly the 18th angels. Like misato explained in the end of evangelion, humans are angels that just have taken a differenet path than the other angels trying to reach Lilith. And rei herself is more of a shell that Gendo Ikari created, using the soul of lilith, while kawaru is the soul of Adam.

  • Rei I probably embodies the "angelic" qualities of Lilith, the Second Angel. After she died, they stored that essence into Unit-00.

Rei II embodies Lilith without "half" of her soul, similar to what happened to Asuka's Mother. Because Lilith is still human in a way, Rei can still exist and function in life...more or less, without her other half.

Apparently, when Rei-II and Unit-00 was destroyed, Rei III reintegrated her two halves to transcend her previous limitations...

  • @TheNEWfilmfanatic99 Uhh....yeah??

  • @UTAU53Yui So there could be a fourth Rei? And that her betraying Gendo's wishes is similar to adolesence and growing up (even if she is the same age)?

  • @TheNEWfilmfanatic99 pretty sure the third Rei came before the movie.

  • Is Rei I the little girl, and Rei II the one in most of the series until she kills herself, replacing her body with Rei III the one in the movie?

  • @ImSoJohnDeleted People are attracted to Rei because she is a sympathetic character. She is constantly deppressed, and while Rei II tries to understand Humanity, Rei III wants to die so she can return to nothingness. Either way they both are lonely characters, and this makes people want to feel for them. Also, on the subject of being unemotional, Hideki Anno said Rei is not emotionless but merely expressionless, and doesn't know how to potray her feelings.

  • The difference in the contents of the heads of Rei II and Rei III are pretty astonisging.

  • oooooooo tsssssss
