Mike Holmes - now a household name across North America - began on the Jon Eakes show, where he met Scott McNeil, owner of General Purpose Pictures. Scott saw tremendous potential in Mike and together they shot a five minute demo for HTGV. They secured enough funding to shoot their first season and the rest is Canadian television history!
I joined the series at the beginning of the second season. Sammy Ray Welch, better known as a director, cut the first season, but wanted to return to directing. Sam had been my boss and mentor when we both worked in-house at Ogilvy & Mather advertising, and was pleased to have me take over the reins.
I cut the majority of episodes in season two, three and four, and brought the show from a half-hour format to a full hour. After the fourth season, Scott and Mike parted company. Mike offered me a job with his new production company, but I chose to stay with Scott and General Purpose Pictures. It seemed a better move to stick with the creator than the creation.

one of my favorite 2 shows now, holmes inspection and holmes on homes. I listen to him when he talks about codes and why he does things a certain way. its like listening to my dad and grandpa working ! now that I am finishing up projects around the house I pay attention even more. I only want to repair it once and I want to do it right, thanks for the show and thanks for ALL the awesome tips and references to building code(s) !!
