Surah Al-Nur Ayat 31:
And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty;that they should not display their beauty and ornaments, except what (must ordinarily)appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms, and not display their beauty except to their husbands...
Surah Al-Ahzab Ayat 59: O Prophet, enjoin your wives and daughters and the wives of believers, to draw a part of their outer coverings around them. It is likelier that they will be recognised and not subjected to teasing and harassment. Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Editor's Note: That is, if a Muslim woman sincerely tries to observe this rule,but owing to human weakness falls short of the ideal,then He is Forgiving & Merciful.)
Hadith Bukhari & Muslim:
"Take care! Each of you is a shepherd and each of you shall be asked concerning his flock; a leader is a shepherd of his people, and he shall be asked concerning his flock; and a man is a shepherd of his house, and he shall be asked concerning his flock; and a woman is a shepherd of the house of her husband and over their children, and she shall be asked concerning them.
Oh believing women, do cover yourselves,
For we are precious diamonds, well guarded.
Like ocean pearls in hardy shells,
Women in Islam are indeed well protected.
So don the hijab my sisters in Islam.
Protect yourselves from unwanted harm.
Allah has commanded us to cover our beauty,
To safeguard our modesty and give us identity.
As a muslim woman, I have my hijab on,
Inviting you, my sisters, onto my bandwagon

Aishah, the Prophet's beloved wife, was a teacher, jurist, historian, and even leader of a political faction for some time.
Zaynab, another wife of the Prophet, was an active social worker, while Asmah, Aishah's sister, was a courageous and resourceful wife and mother, who helped to improve her husband's business significantly.
And this was done in the 6th century AD where elsewhere around the world women were suppressed, ridiculed, tortured, villified and seen as intrinsically inferior.
The nicest part about donning the hijab is that it allows the woman to retain her feminity while she acts as an equal to men. With it, she proclaims that she is an intelligent human being first, and a woman second.
