Apples' new iBooks Author program doesn't natively provide the ability to embed a YouTube video within an iBook. This tutorial shows you how to use Dashcode to create a custom widget that enables you to embed a YouTube video within an iBook.

  • Stay tuned folks. I've got a much better solution that uses the YouTube Player API Reference for iframe embeds. Note: This is labeled as Experimental on the YouTube API site.

New features include the ability to detect the on-line / off-line state, the ability to automatically stop or pause the video if the user closes the window and the ability to automatically start the video when the player window opens.

I'll be posting a new tutorial and the code on GitHub as soon as I can find the time.
