In fact it was used as a logo for the 'Rote Ruhr Uni' at Ruhr University Bochum in 1996 (?).

It's a left-winged study group and the logo consists of two symbols.

The socialist red star (clearly) and the two crossed hammers, a traditional miner's symbol which is quite typical for the Ruhr region where Bochum is located.

It's rather a fantasy symbol, but I like it.. ;o)
