Where do they find these so called reporters? Why don´t they do their homework before going on air? They just love to hear their own voices... The ship was called ADMIRAL GRAF SPEE, not "Spree"!! The ship was NOT sunk by the Royal Navy but was scuttled on orders of her Captain Hans Langsdorff outside the harbour of Montevideo, Uruguay. The crew was interned in Argentina and Langsdorff comitted suicide in Buenos Aires the day after the ship was scuttled. He is buried in Buenos Aires.

Idiot reporter can't even pronounce it correctly, and the germans scuttled it. So much for doing research on a story. Loved the boat though, wish I had one.
-
its pronounced Graff Spay not speee
-
What an ignorant fucking yank. Graf Spree, can't even pronounce it properly, and the Germans scuttled it, the British didn't blow it up.

The Graf Spee was a glorified heavy cruiser. In some ways she had less armour then the Exeter. As for weight the USS Alaska was called a large cruiser and according to wikipedia she weighed in at almost 30,000 tons standard.

Just goes to show how stupid News announcers are!

One hell of a model! A guy in Britain had a 2 man 15-20 foot model of a Victorian battleship on ebay this year. He wanted £6,500 for it ($9.000?) but there were no bids. The fine details were not quite as good as this but the crew were hidden inside.
British didn't blow it up.. Germans scuddled it. lol
