My workbench was a bit too shallow for the installation of this old model Logan lathe. Additional clearance for the motor-mount/belt-tensioning mechanism was obtained by installing a "Hole In The Wall" allowing the pulleys to recess into the wall. The belt guard was fabricated from Baltic Birch Plywood, cutting notches with the table saw so the plywood would bend to the required curvature. The notches were filled with epoxy to stiffen and strengthen the guard. Additional information and photos at http://woodgears.ca "Home Improvement Projects".
Is it just me, or is that belt WAY too loose?

Great idea, i was planning to do that with my compound slide saw to save space.
Really, we both should get a bigger/huge work space.
