I first saw this years ago on PBS I was gee maybe 10-11? Years later I read the book, and now finally it's been posted on here thank you. You know reading, and writting are both good they help exercise the brain. By not allowing her to even read or write, probably helped make her even more sick.
I like how the script was somewhat changed outside of the original story to show that her husband felt that isolating people from pleasure, like books and pictures were wrong when it came to treatment options. However, it was too late for the both of them to reconcile after her madness.
A very sad ending, and poignant commentary of an antiquated -19th century- Phrenological /Darwinian mindset that was, too often, oppressively enforced . Thanks for posting.
it was really strange, but very enjoyable.thank you for putting it up.

The ending of this movie is a LOT more disturbing than how it was described in the original short story. Not bad at all though!
