Monday night, November 9, 2009. Festival of Freedom, Berlin/Germany, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
1,000 styrofoam dominos, which had been painted by schoolchildren, were toppling along the former path of the Berlin Wall.
This scene here was recorded on Ebert Street opposite Lenné Street, somewhere between the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdam Square, where EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso had initiated the toppling of this section of the 1.5-mile long stretch of dominos.
According to media reports, several hundred thousand people from all over the world had shown up here to party together.
Too bad my cammie (Panasonic Lumix TZ7/ZS3) lost its focus when it really counted - but, on the other hand, that perfectly fits my character traits and I don't really care. It was a fantastic night, anyway, inspite of the rain. Thanks to everyone for attending!
In all the years I served in the great city of (West) Berlin I never thought that I would see this happen. I left a piece of my heart with all the wonderful German people I gladly served while stationed there with the US Army's Berlin Brigade. I still hold this city close to my heart.
