Coverage of the Los Angeles Earthquake - City Council reaction live video
Estimated around a 5.4 to a 5.8 as the video was uploaded. There have been upwards of 27 aftershocks. This was considered to be a thrust action.
Tall buildings shook and workers entered the streets as the earthquake hit - downtown buildings were affected. 10 aftershocks occurred in the minutes after the initial quake.
Many reports were that the quake lasted upwards of 15 seconds and felt like a strong rolling motion.
City Hall was occupied and Los Angeles City Council was in session, Dennis Zine was at the mic as the quake hit and managed to keep the audience in the hall calm.
@Featureman I was in the 3rd grade at Hobart Blvd Elementary School's field trip to the city hall. In 1963, it was the tallest bldg in LA.

how many people wished that that building collapsed on all those corrupt politicians?

I remember when the L.A. City Hall was the tallest building in the city. Most skyscrapers were 13 stories tall before the 1960s.

Those buildings are heavily retrofitted.
The building never came close to collapsing.
