First Start in 12 years! 1986 Ford Tempo Diesel 2.0 RF Mazda 5 Speed Manual

After replacing the starter and charging up a new battery, THE TEMPO DIESEL RUNS! Replaced the starter after determining it to be bad. Tried to fix the old one but it had magnet chunks falling loose. Wouldn't even spin. So $160 (ouch!) for a new starter and a battery install it's running! Has the Mazda RF 2.0 Diesel engine installed. Less than 1% of the Escorts, Tempos, Topaz and Lynx had these installed? Guess that makes it pretty rare. Only one I've ever seen close up. Still under my $1000 goal for this ride. Have @$200 in it now. Will need new exhaust, it's shot. There's another $100-$150. Sure more will appear, but I'm amazed at how easily it fired over. For having sat for so long! 12 years!

my son and I just bought 3 1984 mercury lynx diesels. 2 run well. One had a bad head that we have been told can be fixed. Even so the engine will have to be rebuilt on that one. They have sat for most of the last 10 years in the desert with periodic starting and running. Have had to clean a mountain of squirrel and rat crap out of the engine compartment and take out the cage for the heater, but they will be great cars for us. We have a mercedes 300 sd as well. So good for you. don't smoke too.

wow!!! i just got an 85 tempo. hasnt ran in close to 5 years. threw a new battery in it and it fired right up, not a problem. i love my tempo
