From the name, it was first difficult for me to understand what this movie was all about. But after watching it, i'm all praise for satyajit ray. If this movie was based on some novel, then its very difficult to portray human emotions exactly as it is in the novel onto the movie. but ray has done it. a perfect portrayal of an egotist.

Thanks for sharing. I remember watching this movie about 15 years ago. It has some beautiful classical music pieces, many of them of played by Vilayat Khan who was music director of this Satyajit Ray movie.
Ustad Wahid Khansahab appeared in this award-winning Bengali film as an playback artist as well as an actor (old court musician at a Zamindar's court), and the music of the film was composed by his nephew Ustad Vilayat Khan. This film has won the 1958 best music award in an international film festival.

Both Ustad Vilayat Khan and his brother Ustad Imrat Khan received taalim from their uncle Ustad Wahid Khansahab after their father Ustad Enayat Khansahab passed away (Vilayat Khansahab was only 9 years when his father passed away). Incidentally Ustad Wahid Khansahab was actually court musician in several princely-states.

He was succeeded by his son Ustad Hafeez Khan and Ustad Aziz Khan. Ustad Hafeez Khan was a celebrated playback singer in the Bombay Film Industry, where he was better known as H Khan Mastana. Ustad Aziz Khan was a reputed musician and also a famous music-director, and is the father and Guru of Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. This film was directed by Oscar-winning Director Satyajit Roy.
