  • Early years of Karate in Europe...

    Yoshinao Nanbu at the 1966 French open Cannes Cup vs. Patrick Baroux.. The outcome of the fight was immortalized on the cover of Henri Plees book Karate Beginner to Black Belt. Baroux lies at the victors feet, victim to Nanbus ashi-barai.

    Nanbu was the first Japanese karateka to participate in European competition,
