Cheap and easy!. the old engine had been through hell and needs a rebuild so I bought a swapover engine and will rebuild the old one anyway.

total cost around $1900 AUD

Used good engine with upgraded injectors - $1200
Transmission service - $90
Hoses and filters - $60 +/-
O2 sensor - $70
Coolant - $25
Brake lines - $48
Steering Idler arm Bush - $42
Drive belts - $40 +/-
Drinking booze and working on cars with a friend,. Priceless!!!

I'll do the valve lash and exhaust this week too. should quieten it down a lot.

  • If you can replace the capacitors in things before they die, they may not get the chance to damage down-stream electronic components. Once you replace the caps with good quality caps, (Rubicon or Nichicon), you're usually all good. Resistors can die also, but that's more rare.

  • @shades2 yeh I got mine just as it was becoming faulty and it came good, still is today.

  • Nice engine.

I had 2.0 in my e30 for one year..than i swaped in 2.8(for week) and finaly i got the same 3.5 and I am satisfied. For that money can't be better ;)

  • yeah I got a BM E30 323 that has a bad engine, I love the way we can fit the 3.5L engine to them :D

Very affordable and strong engines the M30's are!

  • At 2:07 good background music :)

  • lol yeah I wouldn't use a non BMW engine myself, although raw cubic inches are fun in the right car :D

  • @BimmerM5e39 Fuck Chevy V8, what kinda BMW fan are u?

  • If I do eventually put a improved engine in I will consider a V8 conversion, but i'm not sure how the on-board electronics will like a Chevy V8.

I still have the short block that we pulled out, I may just put upgraded internals and high comp head on it.

  • What about a chevy swap V8 mate
