Twenty years after his humiliating eviction from the United States, Chaplin is awarded an honorary Oscar. The film industry may have felt remorse for what had happened, but not the government it seems: in this video we learn that Chaplin was in fact granted a special 10-day visa... Chaplin's daughter Geraldine discusses her father's acceptance of the honorary Oscar.

This video also features very funny recollections by Chaplin's "swiss" neighbour Peter Ustinov.

From "Charlie Chaplin - The Forgotten Years".

  • No point people on here abusing Americans for what a few officials/politicians did decades ago.

    Just enjoy and revere Chaplin.

  • They give him visa for 10 days? American morons!

  • A fucking travesty

  • fuck you Americans. Now for another recession

  • y didnt he wear his trademark bowler hat?

  • Wonderful, wonderful man.

  • he was wonderful. the US was wrong. Unfortunately our government has a history of great wrongs, but thanfully also great good deeds. We need to realize what is happening and work for what is right.

  • There is no one bigger.

  • @MillerMachinima J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI at the time, pretty much didn't like him. He was a film maker, sympathetic to the poor and slightly left leaning. When Chaplain made his films, the authority characters (the police, the tough guys, etc) were the butt of his jokes. Hoover thought he was a bad influence. So, because he wasn't a US citizen (officially), as soon as he left for a holiday, they exiled him. Only found out on the way back.

  • why was he evicted for the us?
