The magnetic field generated by the induced current doesn't necessarily oppose the change in the original B-field; it opposes any change in the magnetic flux (i.e. you could have diminishing area instead of a changing field strength)

Lenz's Law states that the induced current flows in such a direction that opposes the change causing it. that definition so much easier :)
