An introduction to my hobby of collecting Rocks that contain minerals that glow with different colors in the dark when exposed to shortwave Ultraviolet light (Black light) Also known as fluorescent mineral rocks. This clip starts with me introducing my hobby then is followed by still photo shots of the mineral rocks glowing under a shortwave Ultraviolet black light. You can view photos of my fluorescent rock collections at Webshots at http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/559977873lhqSFb Please direct any questions to ki7f@yahoo.com

My home web page is http://www.ki7f.com/ (Still under construction) and I have hundreds of photos posted at http://community.webshots.com/user/ki7f2 and I also have posted photos of these rocks and minerals at my Flickr account at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ki7f/sets/72157626562394693/

  • Is that 254nm or 365-375nm UV light ?

  • For the shortwave ultraviolet light, the wave length would be 280nm or shorter. Longwave ultraviolet light has a wavelength of 315 nm or longer. Midrange ultraviolet light is between 280nm to 315nm.

  • @nevetszenitram1990 ....I was thinking that same thing! LOL!

  • Will willemite glow under regular blacklights?

  • Very nice! I like minerals with special properties and fluorescent minerals are really spectacular. So far I have been collecting radioactive ones but I might expand to the flourescent ones. They are also more safe to exhibit ;o)

  • @nevetszenitram1990

    I know Right!!!

  • i bought a uv flashlight, and of the the rocks i have only a quarts one and a chunk of silver ore seem to be fluorescing, both with bright pink specks, im thinking i may need a shortwave light instead of whatever this flashlight is.

  • fantastic
