ANCHOR:
About 50 mourners gathered amid tight security on Sunday for the funeral of the 34-year-old who was killed by Taliban gunmen on her way to work at a Christian aid organization.
STORY:
British aid worker Gayle Williams had always made clear she wanted to be buried in Kabul if anything happened to her during her time in Afghanistan.
About 50 mourners gathered amid tight security at the British cemetery in the Afghan capital to honour that final wish.
Williams was shot dead by Taliban gunmen on her way to work.
The killers said the aid organization which employed her was trying to spread Christianity in the fiercely Muslim nation.
Those attending her funeral on Sunday offered another view.
[Unidentified Speaker]:
"Two armed men gunned down a young defenceless girl. It's hard to see this as anything other than a cowardly act that brings shame on the people who have carried out this murder."
Gayle Williams worked for the British-based Christian aid organization SERVE.
It denies the insurgents' allegation of proselytising.
But its officials say they will now have to make a new assessment of security and whether their work in Afghanistan can go on.
[Rina Van Der Ende, Spokesperson, SERVE]:
"The team of SERVE has to come together, have to talk together. The Afghan staff will give their opinion. But as far as SERVE is concerned they hope to continue the activity they have but the detailed decision will be made further during the week."
Aid workers have been increasingly targeted by the Taliban this year as a way of spreading fear and undermining any impression that security is improving.
