"Those Were the Days" is a 1968 single and a track from the 1969 album, "Postcard" and the 1972 album "Those Were the Days". "Postcard" was Hopkin's debut album for Apple Records and was produced by Paul McCartney. The album peaked at #3 on the UK Albums Chart and #28 on the Billboard 200.
"Those Were the Days" was written by Boris Fomin and Gene Raskin after a Russian folk tune. The single was very successful, topping the UK Singles Chart and peaking at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. "Those Were the Days" was and remains Hopkin's biggest hit and one of Apple Records' biggest successes.

Your crying for the same reasons that I am! She was an angelic representation of hope and at the same time the sadness of a more mature disappointment or disillusionment. Couple that with the emotive dynamics of the Russian Folk flavours and more, if like me, you are in her age-group, she's simply singing about us!!!! Best wishes!

This is a prime example of a singer with a beautiful voice just singing the song. No showing off, no tricks, no dance moves, just one of the purest sopranos ever delivering.

I was 10 when this song came out. It has stuck with me for 44 years now, I've sung it repeatedly and doing my best to live the lyrics..."fight and never lose". Still great after all these years.

This popular song evoked late 60's that depicted: romance, gypsy, folk/rock, psychedlic. We tween girls wore minis, long beads, poetic colorful blouses, long hair, & panty hose!

To be pedantic it wasn't actually on the 1969 Postcard album (I still have my original LP) - although it may have been added later to the CD version.
