  • Are they bad on purpose?

  • @tritanopia

    Isn't it obvious?

  • @Dyynamo I mean, they're not bad on purpose directly... the stated goal was to get people who either had never played the instrument they were playing or had never had any training at all.

However, the director's official rule was that everyone was to try their best to play correctly once they were on stage.

So... intentionally bad in conception, but unintentionally in practice?

  • @madlutist

If they only employed musicians who couldn't play their chosen instrument, I think it stands to reason that they weren't that bothered if the sound wasn't right, in which case I'd say they were trying to sound bad on purpose. Thats my take on the subject.

  • @Dyynamo @madlutist What a stupid argue ......totally ruining the funny vid ! :(

  • @kallekup Don't blame me. I was just trying to answer a stupid question.

  • One of the best things about this is there is no cymbal in the original Hallelujah Chorus.

  • Proof that one of the secrets of life is "just keep going."

  • @Dyynamo The Portsmouth Sinfonia was founded by Gavin Bryars in Portsmouth college in England. Anyone could join but you had to take rehearsals seriously. The orchestra had a combination of musical talent along with no talent. The Portsmouth Sinfonia has never really broken up, but most shows were played from 1969 to 1974. Brian Eno joined the Sinfonia in 1970. WFMU. Near the end of side two you can hear some concert goers (recorded at Royal Albert Hall) laughing, as you will too.

  • @MichaelHansenFUN again- the milk turns sour in the fridge and the glasses in the crack in their shelves.

  • @Jeansschwimmer check her out on here also...

  • @tritanopia read about them online, wfmu blogspot

  • I just became an atheist.

  • Love the frenzied cymbals at the end! More more more more.......

  • The singers were given the words but nothing else - no score, no rehearsals.

  • @TheSunnRose Someone should do a concert where the musicians play musical chairs, lol. Oh the joy.

  • @ancsaeb OMG, the cymbal scared me, and then had me laughing in tears.

  • @tritanopia Yes, they are!!! Rumour goes that they had never touched any of the instruments they were playing when they made their first recordings. Sadly they became "better" with each performance and that was the end of them being so unique.

They filled the Royal Albert Hall and the audiance nearly choked laughing.

There should be a "Florence Foster Jenkins Award".
