I have just started reading about urban planning and transport systems. BRT seems to be one of the best systems we have for reducing congestion, and emissions, and improving health.

No no no no no no,BRT is not the answer, light rail is the answer it avoids all the traffic, better quaility of ride and happier passengers.Expensive yes.But brt cost 1000%(thats 10 time people)to maintain.LIGHT RAIL COST THE SAME OVER 10 YEARS AS BRT.

I think you should post this comment on The City Fix blog and see what the experts have to say. I can't speak to it myself.

I live in New York and the city has a subway system, and an excellent bus system as well. The traffic is still bad, and the air pollution , I think it is bad" the only different is that the city is not in a valley, so the air circulates... I strongly think that the problem is the number of cars... buy buy buy ...

I used the Metrobus on Insurgentes, and it is much better than what was there before, which were every kind of bus clogging up the street. Traffic is now much less congested on Insurgentes N and S.
