I'm not sure why but I think of my Dad when I sing classic rock songs. I suppose it's because he grew up with this music, but I learned it when it was in it's second or third vogue. This rendition is the second time I had done this song, and finally I decided to just say forget the technique and pitch, just sing it, and sing it loud. So that's what I did. Originally recorded by the Marshall Tucker Band in 1973, and released as a single in 76 by Waylon Jennings, and then by MTB in 1977, this song became a favorite of mine while becoming familiar with classic rock during my twenties (I lived in Texas at the time). I have to say, I really like this song, not only for it's blues and melody (which to me is still the core of good rock music today), but for its ability to remain on playlist rotations at classic rock radio stations today. I have GOT to sing it with a live band next time.
