This is PART ONE of a two part video
(due to the YouTube 10 minute limit)

In a performance on 2/23/2008 at a concert sponsored by The Scott Joplin International Ragtime Foundation, pianist Marty Mincer, Adam Swanson and "Perfesser" Bill Edwards provided the music for a showing of the silent film "ONE WEEK" that starred Buster Keaton.
The purpose of the event was to demonstrate to the audience what it was like in the early 1900's to view a movie with the kind of music they would have heard performed by the pianists of that era.

This was really an enjoyable event!

I wish you could have been there.

  • Fantastic.I recognised some of the music pieces and am not sure if it was supposed to be all from that period,as I was quite amused to here martys own composition mechanics rag about 7 minutes in.

  • Actually, I don't think the guys were concerned about adhering to any orthodox notions that the music had to be exactly from a certain year. They were basically just trying to give a fairly authentic musical feel to the movie regardless of whichever song might have been from one era or another.

I think they did a fun job of it.

  • Buster was the greatest genius Hollywood will ever see. There's never been anyone to touch him.

  • I love the fact that you can hear the audience laughing. It's what makes cinema screenings so magical.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but was that Buster's father delivering the piano? I know he made appearances in Buster's films from time to time, but we don't get a very good look at his face in this one.

  • This is real comedy. Unlike the sick crude so called "comedy" now adays.

  • I saw this and a few other silent shorts at a local theatre across the street from my college.I dressed like Buster Keaton, which went over well with the ushers. The Alloy Orchestra provided all the music and sound effects. They're three guys and incredibly talented. Check 'em out sometime if anyone's interested. It's unfortunate that the only places to see silent classics is on the internet or Turner Classic Movies on the occasion. Thanks for posting, we all appreciate it!

  • i saw this in an art gallery in madrid scince then this has been a favourite

  • I found out about Buster Keaton just yesterday and now i'm like totally in love with the guy and the films, can't stop watching! Thanks a million for the upload!

  • Masterpiece!!!

  • Catch the title card at 0:39 - how true, how true! BTW, even though I admire all of the great "single" silent comedians (including Chaplin, Lloyd, Langdon), and my personal favorites are Laurel and Hardy, Keaton is the only one of them whose films I can watch over and over, adn then watch them all again. He attitude about life seems so modern, as opposed to the others.

  • @exackerly just saw this now-yes, Sybil did her own stunts in this movie

  • @exackerly

Only saw this just now-yes, Sybil did her own stunts in this movie
