Darby O'Gill e il Re dei folletti 5p. (1959)

Trama: La storia è ambientata nell'Irlanda del XIX secolo. Darby O'Gill (Albert Sharpe), un anziano custode di una tenuta signorile, sta per perdere il posto di lavoro a causa della sua età. A sostituirlo arriva da Dublino il giovane e aitante Michael McBride (Sean Connery). Il vecchio Darby è ossessionato dai folletti che abitano la collina vicina ed in particolare dal loro re Brian (Jimmy O'Dea), che riuscirà a catturare con un ingegnoso stratagemma per farsi esaudire tre desideri. Alla fine Darby sacrificherà i suoi desideri per il bene della figlia Kathy (Janet Munro) e verrà salvato da morte certa dal re Brian, diventato intanto suo amico. Alla fine la bella Kathy e il giovane Michael si innamorano e si sposeranno felici e contenti. Antica fiaba del folclore irlandese portata sullo schermo con garbo da Stevenson, forse il regista più competente della scuderia Walt Disney. Ottimi gli effetti speciali.

Inglese: The story is set in Ireland of the nineteenth century. Darby O'Gill (Albert Sharpe), an elderly caretaker of a noble estate, is about to lose their jobs because of his age. A replacement arrived from Dublin on the handsome young Michael McBride (Sean Connery). The old Darby is haunted by goblins who live in the nearby hill and in particular by their king Brian (Jimmy O'Dea), who manages to capture a clever ploy to get three wishes. At the end Darby sacrifice his desires for the sake of his daughter Kathy (Janet Munro), and is saved from certain death by King Brian, meanwhile, became his friend. At the end of the beautiful young Michael and Kathy fall in love and get married happily. Former Irish folklore tale of the screen flow gracefully from Stevenson, perhaps the most competent director of the Walt Disney stable. Excellent special effects.
