@gayskatingfan Lisa combo wasn't more difficult and wasn't performed as well as Denise combo !
-
Salchow is an easier jump than a toe, and beside it is an edge jump which means there would be no change of edge in the combo ... since the second jump is a required double loop.. another edge jump. So it make for an easier combo.
-
Well Marie Allen did the same triple as Biellmann, a triple salchow combo. Biellman had a triple toe combo which is a bit easier than both.
-
Yes u r correct in the placements, But I would have had Beillmann, Fratianne (only because of the triple) ahead of Lenz, Allen , Lurz not even sure Poetzch should have been next.
-
Actually she was 3rd in the short program. The placings were 1. Fratianne, 2. Biellmann, 3. Marie Allen, 4. Poetzsch, 5. Lurz, 6. Lenz.
I would have had it: 1. Biellmann, 2. Marie Allen, 3. Fratianne, 4. Lenz, 5. Lurz, 6. Poetzsch however

Don't forget, the ISU used to stipulate one of the combo jumps until 1989, which made the choice of combos very restrictive. So, the phenomenon you cite might have been a function of that.
Also, Lisa Marie had performed a 2Lz-2Lp combo through that season and placed poorly (e.g., @ Pre-Olympics in Lake Placid, NHK). Since she couldn't get the Axel combo, she went right to a 3 sal combo. Gutsy move!

Absolutely!

A "Statuesque beauty" if ever there was one....I too LOVE the Guss Lussi I-O edge into the double axel.....a very fun jump, more should try it today!!!

She used the same short at the 1978 Worlds landing a triple salchow/ 2 toe loop combination.
Lisa placed 8th in figures, was 6th in the SP and moved to 5th after the LP.
