Actually I was wrong; I assumed the original was the Isleys. the Top Notes recorded it originally under Phil Spector, then the Isley Brothers. It reached it's height of popularity sung by the beatles.

WOW CALM DOWN BRO. I was trying to figure out which one Shangrilasfan was talking about as the original (not necessarily the BEST, just ORIGINAL). I thought it was the Isley's, when in fact it was the Top Notes. It's difficult to tell when referring to popular songs of that era. So many cover versions.
Also, I know my rock & roll better than most people my age, thank you very much.

were much better than Blacks. And during the 2nd Doo-wop era (1961 to 1963) the italian Americans
and other whites out doo-wopped the Black singers.
