In the jungle along the Kalamanthsn River (Sabah) live the shy pigmy elephants: sometimes a muted trumpeting can lead to a very rare sighting of a family group

  • Well, I didn't know that ... nor did the guides who were accompanying me along the boat safari.

Quite interesting ! Thank you for the historical info !

  • Thanks a lot for your appreciation!

  • Not a true species, but a sub-species of Asian elephants. However in Africa, there IS a true species of elephant that derived from the African species called the African Forrest elephant. They are much smaller than regular Africans and have nearly straight tusks. So maybe in a few hundred years (depending on environmental factors) the pygmy may branch off into a new species.

  • @ginko27 Thanks for the interesting info: I didn't know that the African Forest elephant had such distinctive characteristics ... I hope to visit the area in the next future

  • si, li faccio io in giro per il mondo, poi a casa li rielaboro, e ne ho una bella scorta: è solo un po' noioso pubblicarli, ma un po' per volta ne aggiungerò altri

  • These so-called Bornean elephants are actually the displaced pgmy Javan elephants. They were the descendents of the Sultan of Sulu's pets that was abandoned by the Sultan in the Bornean jungles. Elephants are not native in Sulu or any other islands in the Philippines, but usually they were royal gifts by a sultanate to their allies. This elephants are now extinct in Sulu island since the 1800's but the descendants of the sultan's pets reproduced and now number around 1000 in the Bornean jungles.

  • how beautiful this lovely animals are!!!! thanks for this video!!! I enjoyed very much

  • Beautiful. Thanks.

  • @ginko27 The bornean elephant has been genetically confirmed as a new species, but the african dwarf elephant is actually a dwarf morph.

  • awwwh!
