Carillon of the tower of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

City Carillonneur Gideon Bodden playing the Siciliano from the Ist Sonata for Violin-solo (BWV 1001) by Johann Sebastian Bach, as arranged for the carillon by Bernard Winsemius.

The Carillon of the Oude Kerk was originally cast by François Hemony in 1658. Of the original 35 Hemony bells, today only the 14 largest are still functioning. The 33 smaller bells are modern products.
The range of bells is Bb0 (3400 kg) - C1 - D1 - chromatically Bb4, and they are tuned in 1/4' mean tone tuning.

The keyboard was built by Royal Eijsbouts in 1991.

Live concerts at the carillon of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam: Tuesday 14:00 pm by Boudewijn Zwart Saturday 16:00 pm by Gideon Bodden.

  • The hemony bells of this carillon have a very perculiar sound, it is strange to my ear but beautiful

  • I absolutely love the music of organs and carillons. I play the organ in my church every Sunday, but I wish I could play a carillon, too.
