I liked the fact that in every incarnation Black Adder was more intelligent than in the previous, and therefore his station in society was lower.

@pretorious700- Clearly on YouTube the philosophy of "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" doesn't apply! What a nasty little comment but a good reminder to myself as to why I USUALLY refrain from making comments on Youtube forums - due to comments like yours! and before I finish - didn't realise classics had a useby date? Glad they started with The Foretelling, my favourite series was the first. I grew up without TV and got hold of those videos as a very young boy, probably my first experience of adult comedy apart from the Cosby Show or Cheers or something and watching it blew my mind.

@1986daveyd - not nice and not true! There are some great US comedies- Frasier & Cheers for two! There are some awful British comedies too you know and lastly I wouldn;t classify Blackadder as a sitcom.

Given that a comic multi-generational Saga is so rare, shining a light on important periods of human history, ...and that this was such a Profoundly Perceptive choice of the World War, probably humanity's worst & most pointless tragedy and turning point, as the setting for the end of the series, the character, and presumably the character's family ... this series is probably one of the greatest human works of art.

What's the basis of comedy?
