@tgtennis I get it. I'd be upset, too, if a commercial stereotyped a demographic I belonged to--especially if that stereotype implied I was stupid. However, it seems a good number of people are misdirecting their anger. We "fatties" didn't dream up their advertising campaign. We're not responsible for their lack of quality service, etc. Write a nasty letter. Boycott. Certainly more effective than hypocritically doing to others the very thing a handful of people are upset about PF doing to them.
An insult directed at that area in turn does make a degree of sense, but the use of blanket terms that attacks everyone of a certain physical group, not necessarily the "weak-willed excuse makers," is an immature response, to say the least. I'd hardly expect much better of youtube comments, where hatred is at its most vitriolic, but your point is still quite valid.
I can't point to the fact that I've seen the elite alongside first-timers as general, but it is an ideal
However, they are certainly not providing quality service (any level of training helps with novices) and they are justifying it all by typecasting those who demonstrate greater drive in this respect as lacking in other areas. Now, those who do this, and those who buy into it (see gym reviews of even the most mediocre gyms for evidence) are directly insulting those whose only direct difference is, in fact, an area of superiority.
I think that it is useful to take a look what they are responding to. If planet fitness did indeed place a sort of "fitness limit" on its clientele, while simultaneously seeking to properly give them good service, I would approve heartily. I understand the intimidation that can be caused by having all people mixed together without much contact - though at small elite gym you commonly national lifters alongside soccer moms, because they all get to know each other.
@Ragedhard nobody, eh? Well, I went to Planet Fitness six days a week for over a year. Got up at 3 am, did cardio for at least 90 minutes a day, plus toning. But I guess I don't count towards your made up statistic, eh? What about all the other people I saw there busting their asses every day?
I love it & don't judge anyone! I think these commercials do portray body builders as stupid...but so do blondes get the same. It's the stereotype that's stupid! These guys are adorable! They can be SOO cute & sexy at the same time. If anyone judges them as brainless..do what they do EVERYDAY! Having a body like that is not easy. It is an art, a hard second job that takes lots of dedication & time. GOD BLESS them all!
@tgtennis PS, the suggestions aren't for you, personally. :)
