@rhysepoos The UK hated always being #2 (LOL) but in my opinion they didn't have the best songs coming from a country where "world pop music" was born they should have presented something much better to trully be worthy any victory during the years they ended up being runner-ups. It was more the "status" they felt they had as being more important than many other coutries (for historical, finantinal, social, cultural reasons) that made them feel that they were far more superior even with music.

@rhysepoos This was back in 1993 this was a glorious time in Eurovision with world class songs not just "plastified fast-foodish numbers with baddly spoken english" then Dana International won suddenly it was ok for ESC to be a show were drunken people coul jump for joy and be entertained with bad taste (metaphorically speaking).

@rhysepoos no need to distract the audiences with gimmick and stage circus which today is the key for the whole show but suffocating any space left for was suposed to the main purpose: the music. Plus: the UK always had the pretentious idea that they were the only ones with the best songs all the time .. that arrogant and cocky attitude seems to play against them today ... and it's due to that i feel the UK dispise Eurovision (it's way more than just not taking it seriously ... )

@rhysepoos But there is a difference between Eurovision before 2000 and the one we know today and it became so big so huge and musically so ... trashy to say the least. There a lot of musical imput and musicians worked their asses off to show the best they could musicallywise regardless where they were from proving that each coutry in its own way knew too to make great songs besides the so tagges "country of pop music: UK" ... I remember how songs the spoke for themeselves and there was (cont.)

@Fabian81 I don't think there's a particular hatred of Eurovision in the UK, we just don't take it very seriously. Many Europeans, particularly Eastern Europeans, think it's a song contest, which it so clearly isn't, given the quality of the music in Eurovision compared to the quality of music in the music industry. In the UK we see it as a fun festival, but if we were to win then it would be even more fun.
