In response to your ad on Shay's blog, ads for any purpose are spam when they are put where they don't belong. You do the most help when you ask people to give to verified charities. Just saying that one's is "real" is not sufficient, since those whose are not will say the same thing! If someone wants to make a donation give to Unicef, The Red Cross, etc. then specify the cause. Donations also go farther when the money buys relief supplies in bulk and through local and legitimate channels.
