Audible Hands, Dexterous Voices PT. 1

This video was a school project about scratch DJs in the town/city of Eugene, Oregon. I would like to thank Kre8, Celsius, Connah Jay, DJ Billy, and DJ Free for sharing their thoughts and opinions on what scratching means to them.

FYI, this project was conceptualized, shot, and edited in about 6 weeks time as an experimental ethnography project for a class. All the lighting, two camera shots, sound, and editing were done by me alone.

Aside from DJ Billy, I did not know the other four participants before the project, but this film has led to some great scratch sessions, performances, and friendships.

Please note that I did take out a 3-minute contextual piece because I used copyrighted music, pictures and interviews from hip hop's pioneering DJs and didn't want the copyright brigade messing w/ me. (Gotta love the Wax Fondler product placement at the beginning...ahahaha).
