There was an exceptional Venezuelan performer, Umberto Bruni who played Natalia almost as well as Maestro Diaz. A great expectation of Venezuelan guitar in the late seventies who went astray and failed his vocation...

I think Alirio plays it better than all the other great classical guitarrists. He plays with such authority and besides, this piece is from his own country.

He may feel the Guitar as an organ in his body :))

surprise*

@Boldstrummer the piece was written for him so its not a suprise

Grazie alirio...

Thank you for posting this! invaluable in the fact that Diaz and Lauro collaborated, which gives an accurate representation of the composer's intentions with this piece.

12 clueless schmucks!

Anyone who criticizes his performance is messed up. Diaz practically co-wrote the song with Lauro----I think he knows how it "should" go.

@Giantcrabb I agree, in my opinion it is too fast. As far as tastefulness, to each his own. The finest recording of this piece I've ever heard was also Diaz, from the 60's. He played it a bit slower and allowed the music to catch its own breath a bit more, so to speak.
He has got it. His interpretation is far above any other I've heard. These rhythms are in his blood.
Too bad the recording is so poor.
