economic development is incapable of setting man free, on the contrary , it will end by enslaving him further , ..

man's value is not measured by what he has, but by what he is

Actually, John was not a welfare recipient. He existed with the most minimal of bare essentials, supplied to him by sympathetic inhabitants of the neighborhood- food, clothing, spare change, rides to shelters so he could shower, and even cigarettes.
I should also note that John NEVER panhandled while sitting in his favorite spot on 3rd Street near Berendo St. He never asked anyone passing by for handouts or spare change. People gave him those things out of simple generosity.

Thank G-d. At least there will be some measure of earthly justice.
The killer deserves eternal torment in hell.

I hope the kill him before the death penalty is outlawed in California.

Me too.He doesn't even deserve to be alive right now!
They found the killer on January 22,2009.

Yes. Apparently he was once a barber at a shop a block away from where John was murdered. Former co-workers described him as being somewhat odd and angry.
Apparently the police tracked him down from all the tips and information offered by the folks in this neighborhood over the last few months.
The police also stated they have evidence collected at the crime scene that they confidently believe will link the suspect to the crime.
I hope he gets life in prison w/out parole.

Yes, most homeless folks, especially in L.A., are homeless by choice. Most, unlike John MacGraham, are not afflicted with severe mental illnesses such as Schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders.
And there are not only many emergency overnight shelters in L.A., but comprehensive, transitional housing programs as well, focusing on all aspects of finding and maintaining housing, such as employment and training, to budgeting, to living skills such as cooking, cleaning and paying bills.
