This is a homemade antenna that I made. My main goal was to make it multi directional because I am tired of moving my antennas around to pick up different stations. This is 2 feet tall and and has antennas on 3 sides but the antennas have elements on both the outside and the inside so you may call it a 3 way antenna or a 6 way. I used 12 metal coat hangers to make the 24 elements on this antenna. I have also made a 3 feet tall antenna similar to this one but that one only has elements on the outside. I haven't been able to compare the 2 because the other one is at my parents but my parents really enjoy it. It has 8 inches between all the elements instead of the 4 inches this one uses and they both have 24 elements.

  • So, speaker wires can substitute for a copper wire if you don't have any on hand?

  • @starcar1980 I started using 100 feet clothes line wire that I purchased at Walmart for about $4.00. The basic foam board one I did use speaker wire to connect all the clothes hanger elements. Now I just make everything out of the clothes line wire. I have some more videos about some newer designs.

  • I d'ont want to slip and fall on this thing ! it's like a cactus

  • @bobbygraine Yeah you have to be careful if your face gets too close to it too, it can poke your eyes out. It would be nice to have something to cover the ends of the whiskers up if it is not on a pole in the air.

  • Please describe more clearly what you called a "Combiner" Do you mean a three (3) way coax spliter going to a single output?

    Thank you.

  • @RRAYBE A combiner is like a splitter but you can have multiple sources going into it and one single source going out. Most combiners will also work as splitters but a lot of splitters don't work well as a combiner.

  • The camera movement is a little too much & slightly dark, can't see the details how you wired the elements. Overall it's a great job! I'm actually planning to make one similar to this, using Greek Life paddles (an ideal college student design).

  • @Shaunbrough ok...starting in what frequencies can your antenna catches signals?...tnx

  • @0923rio The whiskers (elements) are 7 inches long and have a gap of about 3 inches in between them. Check out my video about 2 home made multi directional antennas for more information on the dimensions. I have redesigned the antenna a few times and those 2 are my latest design. Also the smaller design that has 12 elements instead of 24 does pretty well and might work better than the other one during storms I am using the smaller one more than the other one right now.

  • how do you get the dimensions of your design? are you using formulas? can you pls. share it to me...im currently working on my project..and i need the calculations for my defense....you'll be a great help for sharing your knowledge...tnx in advance
