Also feed them at regular times. Don't leave their food down to graise on all day. He'll need to go as soon as he wakes up. Go straight out. Once inside breakfast... about 30 minutes he'll need to go again. Then no food till lunch. Same thing about 30 minutes out you go. lol. Feed Dinner no later than 5 pm take up food 30 minutes take him out. Then take him out again before bedtime. Its really all about setting up a routine and sticking with it. IT takes about 2 straight weeks.
When he rings the bell, we praise and treat. Then its sit, leash and out to same spot , the one same word potty, potty, potty. till bizness is done. then praise and treat! Again the key is repititon DO NOT PUNISH! The only time its ok to say NO! or CLAP and speak in a high pitch tone is if you catch him in the act. Then immediately go to routine.
Our Comet is 13 weeks, a few tips on the potty training. Repitition, Repition , Repitiion and use the same key word each time. We go to the door, sit, leash have him ring the bell on the door to learn bell means outside. Once outside we go to the same spot and say potty, potty, potty. Dont let him deviate off to play or anything until he's done his business. Be sure not to praise until he is completely finished then praise like crazy and treat!!! He goes to the bell and rings it now.
Congratulations! I'm afraid I'm the last person to ask for potty training advice, as I can't seem to get Rio to understand he difference between grass and the area rug in the living room. I've had a heck of a time getting him potty trained. I start Puppy Kindergarten on Wednesday so if they give us any pointers I'll post some for you! good luck! Are you getting a merle or a tri?
Can't wait!!! Getting an Aussie on Sat. ! Btw, Rio is soooo cute!!! Love the name too :D
