Chinese Yueju Opera-Peacock Lovers(sad love)-孔雀东南飞-1

Addapted from Chinese ancient ancient narrative poem Peacocks Flying To The Southeast.

A couple Liu Lanzhi and Jiao Zhongqin are forced to part because Lanzhi couldn't bear a child after three years of marriage.Zhongqin's mother doesn't like her daughter-in-law Lanzhi.She's also jealous that her son has put all his love on his wife and almost forget his mother. She would like his son to marry the daughter of a richer family and triesd all kinds of means to be picky with Lanzhi. Finally Lanzhi could not bear any more and went back to her mother's. She still loved Zhongqin and swear never marry again. But her mother and brother would like her to marry a young business man who admires her. At the second wedding day the couple both commit suicide for frustrated love.They changed into peacocks after death.It's a sad love story with an ending a bit similar to Butterfly Lovers.

I just realised that the opera artise acting out Jiao Zhongqin was from the Dreams of Red Chamber where he acted as Jia Baoyu! :)
