This is the Sahaquiel fight from Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance. It involves the Tenth Angel, Sahaquiel, as it attempts to suicide bomb NERV Headquarters, and the three Evangelion Units 00, 01, and 02 attempt to catch it before it comes in contact with the ground and makes a fairly big hole where Japan used to be.

Some of the finest animation I've ever seen. Nearly seamless blending of CG and normal animation.

  • Wow!, can someone give me a link where to download (for free) the whole video? Pretty please.

  • @GeneralLust Can't have it for free since it's licensed in the US though, you leech. Go buy it on Amazon, it's like 20 bucks.

  • computer graphics? goddammit...

  • @iskim86 a-bloo-bloo-bloo CGI in my animes that allows them to pull off some otherwise hideously difficult to normally animate stuff really easily, and does it almost, ALMOST flawlessly allowing them more time to spend animating other stuff traditionally a-bloo-bloo-bloo

  • @AStandsForFrench of course. i just miss traditional animations, that's all. *watches the original Evangelion episodes for the 17th time*

  • @iskim86 Honestly Rebuild 2 manages to blend CGI and traditional animation far better than most any other anime I've seen, and the production and direction of this scene in particular shows such skill that I'm willing to give it a pass.

  • Never tought running could be so badass

  • In addition to the CGI thing, I love the little effects that were probably out of reach of their budget and technique in the original; the rubble kicked up by the EVA's sprinting, the ground exploding around unit 1's feet when it lands after a jump; it makes the scenes so much more alive.

  • @whiskers933 Glad to see they took advantage of that then.

  • @Varreify It actually was intentional.

  • @iskim86 I felt the CGI on the angels really made them seem out of place, like they don't belong, which, intentional or not, was pretty cool.

  • The EVAs look almost as cool as the original ones. Very nice.

  • @GeneralLust wtf!, Sorry Forgot to log-out my account. Someone just reply last 2 months ago!

  • @GeneralLust By "whole video" I assume you mean the entire movie? Forgive me, dear, I know all too well how you feel, but I'd have to say no. The Rebuild films are ridiculously cheap to own through Amazon and Rightstuf these days, so unless you can't afford take out even once a month, or a cell phone, or cable, then you ought to be able to purchase these masterful remakes legally.

  • own this at home, but wanted to find this scene online so i can explain the trope "Crowning Music Of Awesome" to people at work.

  • @AStandsForFrench You can still pretty easily see what's CGI and what's not, though. In some animes, like Paprika, this is harder to notice.
